Boudoir Photos

I did my first solo boudoir photo session. It was for a client's Valentine's Day/Anniversary gift to her husband. It was lots of fun. Not intimidating like I expected. We turned up the music and got down to business. Sexy business that is. I find boudoir photos very sensual and beautiful. All body types can look gorgeous in this style. Lighting and angles are very important, but more so is the subject's confidence. If you are comfortable with your body - it shows in the photos.

Sorry no photos for this post, but if you are interested in doing a boudoir shoot, please let me know.

Zach, Angi and baby makes three

Sara did our first maternity shoot this month in Miami. Angi and Zach live in Minnesota and came down for the holidays to enjoy family and warm weather. They are expecting their first child in June. Angi was only 4 1/2 months pregnant - really tiny by maternity photo standards. Most times photos are done at 8 months but we were happy to try. This was still a very important time in thier lives - a time worth documenting for sure!  They're not sure of the baby's sex yet (doctor is 70% sure it's a boy) so we tried to keep it fun, casual and gender nuetral. Hopfully we will be able to do more maternity photos with them in the near future.

A family that plays together, stays together

I had the pleasure of working with the beautiful Carreno family last week. We simply wandered around their neighborhood hoping to capture some great family moments. Working with children can be challenging since they don't take direction very well and have TONS of energy. The photographer has to be poised and ready for that split second shot. Luckily, their son was very comfortable with me and the camera - we met several times before the shoot. I love family shoots, simply because I am able to give them such a precious gift. Families don't often get great photos of the whole gang together. Usual one parent is the one taking the photo. The Carrenos are fun and loving. Their energy and happiness is obvious in the photos. I wish them the best and really enjoyed working with them.

Rockin' Photojournalism

Ashes photojournalist, Sara, is a music lover and avid concert goer. Naturally, she enjoys working with bands. However, when working with bands with multiple members it can be challenging to capture everyone's personality. A safe bet is to try to match the feel of the photos with the feel of the music. Also, meeting with the group ahead of time helps.

When shooting a live event, you have to be ready for anything: lighting changes, band members moving around, and the crowd is unpredictable. The best thing about live shots is that they often hold great emotion.

Alyssa Portrait Session

Ashes Photograhy photog, Sara, did a shoot with Alyssa for a modeling portfolio. The shoot was done at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. Alyssa was very comfortable in front of the camera. She didn't even mind the crowd of 'gawkers' who stopped shopping to watch them in action. This was the most challenging aspect of the shoot. It was difficult to make sure the frame was clear of onlookers. Thankfully, the mall is gigantic and offers a wide range of backdrops. Alyssa has a natural beauty to her. It was a joy to photograph her.

A Little Girl and the Beach

My niece Campbell came to visit from Georgia this July. We took in a Rays game and a few relaxing days at the beach with a whole crew of family. She is fearless and full of life. She loved stomping in the water and chasing "bird-birds." She is so photographic and doesn't shy from the camera - thanks to her Mum who is a fantastic photographer as well. I love photographing kids simply because they will never be this young again. They grow up so fast and it is nice to look back and remember all the great moments you have experienced already.

Photos for Publix

I took these photos for a Publix store in south St. Petersburg, Fla. They wanted local photos to compliment already existing old photos of early Publix stores. These were originally taken in color and converted to black and white in Photoshop. They hang in the liquor store and measure 16x24. I love Publix. It's a great place to shop and they really care about the community.

The St. Petersburg Pier, complete with trolley. I love the historic waterfront; it's so charming.
